A. Time Commitment This Week
- 2 hours at group, ½ hour of response
B. Class this week
- This week Daniel, a class member, brought us his findings about how we can establish that Matthew was the author of the book of Matthew, and if his credibility is real. We discussed how we can find his credibility. Pastor Joe stated that the way we prove that Matthew was real and the author is that we cannot disprove those facts. He told us a story, which Dr. Bence also tells, about Saint Denys. He said why is this story more unbelievable than the story of the resurrection? They are both recorded by eye witnesses. So we talked about faith. This is how we come to believe that Matthew has credibility.
C. Questions
1. Does it matter that we cannot substantially prove Matthew the author of the Gospel?
2. Can we stand on faith alone?

TO ALL RASINS
ReplyDeleteWe're getting near the end now... soon it will be time to start collecting all these into your final "Practicum paper"--(I hope you wrote them in Word first--that'll be easier then copy-pasting all you posts and responses actually)
See the syllabus for details... the LCE final practicum paper is due the last regular day of class--Friday Dec 11.. so you can actually do one Sunday Dec 6 and get it in the final paper.
Joey,
ReplyDeleteThere are a few books in the Bible that are questionable on who authored them, but does it matter that we cannot definitively prove who wrote them? I don’t believe so. I agree with the verse in 2 Timothy 3:16 that says “All Scripture is God-breathed…” This is proof enough for me that God has inspired the words of the Bible no matter who he used to write them. Obviously there are going to be critics and cynics that will say there has to be an author that is able to be proved to have written it, but I believe that it is God’s word, so who cares who wrote it? If we are going to place so much time on figuring out who wrote it instead of applying its principles and truths to our lives, then we are using the Word of God completely wrong. It is meant to change lives and not be a source of conflict or uncertainty.
Can we stand on faith alone? I believe that faith is what Christianity is about. Without faith why would anyone believe in a God that we cannot see? Faith is what makes us keep believing, no knowing, that God exists and is watching over us. So, in short, we can stand of faith alone and I think that it is the basis of all Christianity.
God bless,
Chris
